1. I’m not fit!
When I first tried to live a healthier lifestyle, I did not want to go to the gym because I was so out of shape! I mean, there are FIT people at the gym! I didn’t want people to look at me because it would be obvious that this is my first time here. (or my first 100th time here!) I mean, I know they are lifting weights and are running on that treadmill like they are trying to get away from me but I am sure they noticed ME and just how much I didn’t fit in.
2. I’m embarrassed!
When I would walk into the gym, I didn’t even know where to start! Cardio or weights first? Should I get on the bike or the stair stepper looking thing? I thought that stair stepper thing looked like fun so I tried it but soon wondered if everyone only exercises on it for 3 minutes? I mean, that was HARD! Now what do I do?
3. What is gym etiquette?
So, I would also see people leaving their towels on machines. I wasn’t sure if that meant I couldn’t use the machine? Even if I can use the machine, I would then have to take all of those weights off that those strong guys left on it. In the middle of doing that, I would then notice the puddle of sweat on the seat of the machine. What is that? Is that butt sweat? Ewww.
I overcame these fears- and you can too! Hold your head up high, know that everyone has to start somewhere, and march your happy booty into that gym and get your fitness on. If you are unsure of what to do, ask one the gym staff members. That is what they are there for. Go in with a plan and you will look like you belong there….before you know it, you will FEEL like you belong there.
