Last October I was fortunate enough to participate in photographer Paul Buceta‘s Strong Camp held in Houston, TX. At that time, the camp was led by Jesse Hilgenberg. I was not sure what to expect. I was pretty intimated by my own imagination as soon as I registered. I imagined all of these buff beauties looking at me like I was misplaced. No lie, I thought I would be the odd ball out.
Once the weekend kicked off- it was eye opening. There were woman of all shapes, sizes, athletic abilities, ages….it was beautiful. Being around so many encouraging women and hearing their Strong stories made me realize that I am not alone. My story and struggles may be unique to me but some of these hero’s had been or were going through far more than I could imagine. We were all there to support each other, push ourselves to the limits, and to learn as much as we could from not just Jesse, but also from each other. It’s difficult to put into words how this experience changed me. As moms, wives, daughters, friends- we tend to go and go and forget to stop and take time to refuel. Yes, taking an hour every day to work out is great but the benefits of connecting with other strong, healthy, inspiring women is a necessary therapy.
If you get a chance to experience one of these Strong Camps- I highly recommend it. I am looking forward to participating again this year!
